I'll have to save up some cash and visit the Netherlands sometime. This is the most utopian take I've ever seen on the scene there, and I am by nature skeptical of all utopian claims, but I've thought many, many times how different Kansas City would look if even 10% of the people driving at a given moment were on bike instead. Even if that 10% were on bikes only as fair weather riders, it might be hard without landmarks to recognize the scene as Kansas City. But when I'm boxed in on I-435 in it's Carmageddon, I can't imagine why anyone would want to drive everywhere. And just the other side of that sound deflecting wall, there's a bike path that stretches from just south of Waldo to Olathe near the Garmin headquarters...
